FIREFIGHTERS were recognised for their service and outstanding contributions at their annual dinner at Deloraine on Saturday.
The Western Tiers Group, which includes brigades at Deloraine, Elizabeth Town, Golden Valley, Chudleigh and Mole Creek, held the dinner at the Deloraine Football Club.
Besides the opportunity of getting together during the bushfire off-season, members were given service medals.
Mole Creek brigade member Kirk Bourne was recognised for five years' service, as were Meander brigade members Caitlyn Berne, Samuel Flowers, Andrea Berne, Suzanne Berne and Trudi Buttery.
Golden Valley members Ian Mclachlan and Ali Nielander were recognised for 15 years' service.
Elizabeth Town members Luke Padman and Bugs Rogers and Chudleigh member Owen Rogers were also recognised for five years' service.
Phil Hardacre was recognised for 30 years' service.
Deloraine member Paul Chilcott was recognised for five years' service, Phillip Barrett and Simon Sherriff for 10 years' service, David Nicholls for 25 years' service and Frank Walker for 30 years' service.
This year two people from the Deloraine brigade also received a Tasmania Fire Service Medal.
This honour was awarded to those that were doing that extra bit more than the standard fire fighter.
Group officer Errol Gleeson and Deloraine leading firefighter David Sherriff received the awards.
Both members have given 32 years service each, holding senior positions within the Deloraine Fire Brigade.
It came as a surprise for the men to receive the TFS medals on the night.
