Movies to shine under night sky

16 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
YOU know you live in a great municipality when your council provides free outdoor entertainment brought to you on a giant inflatable movie screen.

The Meander Valley Council, in conjunction with Deloraine Community Bank, is holding two Movie Under The Stars events.

Council staff member Rick Dunn said these would be the first movie nights held in the Meander Valley.

"We saw the concept in another area sometime last year and it seemed to be a really enjoyable, community-type event," Mr Dunn said.

The first round of movies are aimed at a broad market.

Mr Dunn said if the nights were successful they could also be taken to some of the smaller towns in the municipality.

Mr Dunn said he hoped the council could make it an annual event.

He encouraged attendees to bring a picnic rug, chairs, food and something to drink.

Community organisations and service clubs will also offering catering on the nights.

•Movie Night One: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules - at the Deloraine Show Grounds on February 4 at 7.30pm.

•Movie Night Two: Rio - at Westbury Village Green on February 18 at 7.30pm.
