ADORNING the upstairs walls of Country Club Tasmania in Launceston are a series of images representing the Meander Valley.
The 2011 Meandering exhibition contains 38 pieces of art which depict various scenes of the region.
Major prizewinner Rachel Howell won her award for the atmospheric watercolour "Bastion Cascades".
"I am a passionate environmentalist and wanted to paint a place basically untouched by people," Howell said.
"There are a lot of really special places like that within the municipality ... it is nice to emphasise how beautiful those places are."
Howell said she began producing quality paintings 12 months ago after having attended a number of art courses and workshops.
She said she painted up to eight smaller versions of the image, before attempting the final image.
Launceston art society president Carlene Bullock said finding the right image for the exhibition was not an easy task.
"The Meander Valley municipality is so far reaching. There is such variety," Bullock said.
"It is a real challenge to come up with something a little bit different, quirky, or to find that special place that you want to paint."
The Meandering exhibition is a joint initiative of the Launceston Art Society, Meander Valley Council and Country Club Tasmania.
It will be open to the public until February 12.
