 Traveller picks the right role

Traveller picks the right role

SWEET, red globes of berry goodness served with a smattering of icing sugar and a blob of ice-cream.

Wow - and you can thank Hose Yoo for that.

Mr Yoo, of South Korea, has spent the last month fruit picking at the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm.

He came to the Meander Valley after a stint of fruit and vegetable picking in Queensland.

His interstate friends recommended that he spend some time in Tasmania.

"I love it here," Mr Yoo said.

"Tasmania is wonderful ... with nice views, and nice backgrounds."

He is one of 60 people currently working at the raspberry farm.

Fruit picker supervisor Penny Revell has been working on the farm for nine years.

Mrs Revell said she loved meeting the seasonal pickers and the outdoors work.

She said the raspberry season had improved on previous years.

The plastic tunnels that were erected three years ago have also helped the berries to grow.

The tunnels trap heat and influence growth and allow production to keep on going despite rain.

She said there are up to six varieties of raspberry grown on the farm.
